This is the treatment of periodontal (gum) disease. Periodontal disease is a disease of the teeth, gums and the bone that surrounds the teeth. The main cause of periodontal disease is the accumulation of plaque and tartar. The goal of Soft Tissue Management is to eliminate the source of the infection by removing the plaque, tartar, and the bacterial toxins from the root surface. This is done through traditional scaling and root planing and local delivery of antibiotics. In our office we supplement these therapies with a soft tissue laser that further enhances the removal of toxins and the consequently improves health of the gums.
